Who We Are
Tallgrass Construction has been building in Manhattan since 2015, as a family and locally owned company. Across our crews, there is over two decades of combined trade experience, which goes back well before the company itself got its start.
In practice, that means decks, deck covers and screened porches, pergolas, and siding, along with room additions and siding on small commercial buildings. Tallgrass is a specialty builder with a defined scope, and those six lines are the entire list: this is what our crews build, project after project, town after town.

What We Build
Decks
We build new composite and treated decks, and take on full refurbishment for structurally sound decks and railings. TimberTech is the composite decking line we build with, and pressure-treated lumber is still the other option for anyone who wants it.
Deck Covers & Screened Porches
We build roof covers over new and existing decks, and we convert open decks into screened porches for shade and protection from the weather. Both options extend how much of the year the space actually gets used.
Pergolas
We are a Heartland Pergolas dealer for the PVC line, and we also build custom cedar pergolas, both freestanding and built over an existing deck. The PVC line is low maintenance, and cedar gives a different look for anyone who wants real wood overhead.
Siding
We install three siding materials: vinyl, fiber cement, and engineered wood. LP SmartSide is the engineered wood line, and we are certified to install it. Which one suits your house depends on your budget, the age of the home, and how much upkeep you want to take on later.

How We Work
The estimate
You reach us by phone or through the form on this site. We come out, look at the project, and talk through materials and scope in person, and the estimate itself is free. The form also asks for a budget range before the visit. That is not a gate: it lets the estimate we bring back be for a project you can actually build, instead of pricing out three or four materials that were never within reach.
Permits
We handle the full permitting process on every project that needs one. Requirements vary by project and by jurisdiction, since city and county building departments are separate and do not always follow the same rules. That is not something we expect you to sort out on your own: we identify what your project needs and take care of the paperwork as part of the job.
The build
We are licensed and insured, and the work itself is done by our crews. Material choice is worth talking through before anyone starts a project, since Kansas weather is part of the decision: hot, humid summers, freeze-thaw winters, and hail all show up here. The materials that hold up best depend on what you are building, and that is a conversation for the service pages and for your estimate visit.
After it's finished
Warranties are specific to the product installed, and the terms are stated on the page for that product. That keeps the coverage on your deck, your siding, or your pergola exact, instead of one blanket promise that does not actually apply to everything we build.
